Live Translator support
Frequently asked questions
Can't find your answer? Email support@mirainami.com. You can also write to us from Settings › Support in the app.
Does it really work without the internet?
Yes. The first time you tap the microphone, the app downloads its offline speech engine and prepares it for your iPhone. After that, speech recognition, translation and read-aloud all run on the device, in Airplane Mode too.
Translation uses the on-device translation built into iOS. If iOS asks to download a translation language, accept it once; it is then available offline as well.
Why is there a download the first time?
The speech engine is too large to ship inside the app, so it is downloaded once from Apple's servers (about 1–2 GB depending on your languages; Wi-Fi recommended) and then optimized for your iPhone. A single progress card covers the whole step. It only happens once.
Is anything I say uploaded?
No. Your voice, text, camera images and recordings never leave your iPhone. The app has no account and we operate no servers for it. Session records are kept on your device and can be deleted in History, or turned off in Settings.
Which iPhones are supported?
The dedicated offline engine needs iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14 or later. Other iPhones with iOS 18 can use the app with the speech recognition built into iOS; accuracy and available languages may differ. On those iPhones, a language must be added under Settings › General › Keyboard › Dictation Languages before it can be recognized.
Which languages can I translate between?
The app supports 20 languages. Whether a specific pair can be translated depends on the on-device translation in iOS; the app tells you when a pair is not available.
Recognition seems less accurate. What can I try?
Keep the iPhone close to the person speaking and away from loud music. When listening to sound from a speaker, such as an online meeting on a laptop, place the iPhone near the speaker and check Control Center › Mic Mode: Standard or Wide Spectrum works better than Voice Isolation for sound coming from a speaker.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Open iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions, choose Live Translator and cancel. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Refunds are handled by Apple.
I got a new iPhone. How do I restore my purchase?
Sign in with the same Apple Account, open the app and choose Restore Purchases in Settings › Purchases & Subscriptions.
Can I rely on the translations?
Machine recognition and translation can make mistakes. For medical, legal, emergency or other situations where an error could have serious consequences, please check with a professional interpreter.
